Appointments

Appointed by Maryland Governor Parris Glendening in 1996 to his Flood Mitigation Task Force for Western Maryland to identify and implement methods to lessen the devastating impact of periodic floods in the most western part of the state.

Appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge in 1996 (and re-appointed in 1998, 2000, and 2002) to the Pennsylvania Rail Freight Advisory Committee. The Committee serves to advise and comment on rail freight transportation programs that are performed or funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and to propose methods, strategies or technologies that can be used to improve rail freight transportation services, systems or facilities within the Commonwealth.

Appointed by West Virginia Governor Gaston Caperton in 1993 to a special task force to improve the delivery and cost efficiency of state-provided health and human services, including federally funded programs such as Medicaid.

Appointed by the Maryland Board of Revenue Estimates in 1993 to the Business Advisory Panel. The Board, composed of the Comptroller of the Treasury, State Treasurer, and Secretary of the Department of Budget and Fiscal Planning, annually sends to the Governor for submission to the General Assembly, an itemized statement of anticipated revenues for the next fiscal year. The Panel evaluates and advises the Board on their submission.

Appointed by Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer in 1991 to the Maryland Greenways Commission. The Commission received several national awards for its leading role in preserving and providing access to natural corridors for hiking and biking.

Chosen as a member of Leadership Maryland (1994), a one-year training program designed to equip top level executives with the necessary knowledge to effectively participate on various state boards and advisory committees that are influential in forging Maryland's public policy.

Served on the Johns Hopkins University, Downtown Campus, Advisory Board (1995 - 2000).

Serves on the Board of Directors of the Children's Cancer Foundation, Inc. (since 1995).

Served as Treasurer for St. Peter's Episcopal Church and St. Peter's School in Ellicott City, Maryland (1990-1994).

Served on the Board of Advisors and Auction Committee for the Sudden Death Institute at the University of Maryland Medical School (1989-1994).

Served on the Board of the American Cancer Society, Howard County Chapter (1990-1993).
